Blood, Sweat, and Compassion

The 2014 Trek to the Roof of Africa

In October of 2014, Jon Scott, a Compassion supporter for a few decades, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro as part of the "Blood, Sweat, and Compassion" Challenge. He raised $6,610, around double his goal of $3,250!

His goal was to raise enough money to provide a Tanzanian village with clean water:

"Good water is so available in the United States, I hardly think about it. Imagine if you had to walk several miles just to get something to drink, and even then, found it fouled with bacteria and other contaminants.

That’s the situation several thousand people face all over the world; an unfortunate reality we are hoping to end for several thousand people in one Tanzanian village."

The team raised enough to build two wells in the town, as well as refurbishing the local Compassion Center's water tank.

All images below are Jon Scott's! To prepare, he visited Denver, and summited Grey's Peak, at 14,270 feet.

Closing Thoughts...

I can't believe how incredibly blessed I am to be living the life I am. I have a loving family, a beautiful house, and this very computer on which I write to you all today. There's also the things that you don't think about often, such as having clean drinking water. What if you had to walk miles to gather water from a dirty, contaminated bacteria-ridden basin every day? That's something the people of Tanzania, and many other countries across the globe have to face every single day.

Jon Scott, ever since I read about his adventures a few years ago, albeit just mere Fox News host, has inspired me to try and make a change. Last year, I, alongside my immediate family, decided to harvest sunflower seeds at the draw of summer, and sold them to close family and friends. All the proceeds/earnings went to help an orphanage in the Philippines.

Now, I implore you to try to make a change to someone else's life, even if it is small. You could pick a flower out of a old lady's garden next door and give it to someone in your life. You could pull up your neighbor's trash cans for a change, or sweep the sidewalks. You could compliment a passerby on her dress! All of these things, be it minor in the grand scheme of things, would be a valiant effort for change.
